  BC Freedom of Information and
  Privacy Protection Act

The BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act, which is now effective for BC School Districts, requires that consent be obtained for the collection and use of personal information that is not authorized under the School Act. This includes many activities that occur regularly in the school community, such as the taking of individual and school photos, the listing of honour roll, and the use of names and description of student activities in newsletters.

The Continuing Education Program gathers and maintains information used for the purpose of registration and other fundamental activities related to being a student at Continuing Education. In signing a registration form, all applicants are advised that both the information
they provide and any other information placed in their student file will be protected and used in compliance with the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act.

All information collected from, or pertaining to, all Continuing Education Program students will be kept private and confidential, unless otherwise authorized in writing by the students themselves.

Activities of the school that require your general consent include

• Individual photos that are taken.

• Photos and/or videos of classroom and school activities that are taken and used in the
school calendar, school annual, and for other purposes within the school community.

• Class and team photos that are taken and used within the school community.

• Student names and descriptions of activities that are used in the school newsletter and
   other school communications.

• Student names, photographs, and write-ups that are included in the school annual
   (if one is produced).

• Student names that are included in listing of honour roll, graduation, or for other awards
   or for birthday recognition purposes.

• Media photographs or videos of classrooms and identified by name or interviewed, may be
taken and used by the media. (See note)

• Student names that are used on artwork, written material, or other items to be displayed in
the school or District or at school sponsored displays in the community.

• The use of student names in class lists to enable students and teachers to locate students
    (beginning of the year).

• Other similar activities within the school community.

NOTE: Photographs or videos taken by the media or any other organization where individual students are identified or instances where the students are interviewed require a separate specific consent. You will be contacted for permission for this to occur.

As well, photographs or videos taken by the District where the material will be used outside of the school community will require a separate specific consent.

Please note that photos and/or videos of school activities that are open to the general public may be taken and used for purposes within and outside of the school community. The school may not restrict such activity at public events.
