   Post-Secondary Information

If you plan to attend a post-secondary institution (i.e. university or community college or institute of technology), please consult a counselor/advisor at Continuing Education or the Career Centre coordinator. You should check specific entrance requirements of the institution of your choice.

NOTE: Look for the following:

• Is Grade 12 graduation required?
• If Grade 12 graduation is required, does the institution also have provisions
for entrance of adultsas mature students? What are these provisions?
• Are there specific pre-requisites required to enter the program?
   (i.e. courses, grade levels)
• What other entrance requirements must you meet?
   Colleges

Some college programs require Grade 12 graduation. However, many do not. These programs require only that the specified pre-requisites for the program be completed. Camosun College does not require a grade 12 provincial exam.

Note: Students in the Adult Graduation Program (5 courses) are not required to write provincial exams. For students in the Secondary Graduation Program some courses have mandatory provincial exams.
Universities

There are three ways of meeting university entrance requirements in BC. Choose the one that best fits your situation. If you are planning to attend university outside BC, please consult the specific institute’s calendar. Consult a counselor/advisor at Continuing Education if you need assistance or check with your Career Centre coordinator.

a) Mature Student Status

Check with the university of your choice as to whether you are eligible. Requirements, including age and prerequisites, will be listed in their calendar.

Most post-secondary institutions (e.g. colleges, universities, technical institutes, etc.) have made provisions for adults who may not have followed the traditional educational paths.

Even though you may qualify for general admission as a mature student, you may still have to successfully complete a specific secondary school course(s) with a specific grade or percentage to enter the post-secondary course or program of your choice.

It is always recommended that you contact the institution you wish to attend to determine what is required for your general admission and your acceptance into specific courses or programs.
b) University-Transfer Program (UT)

Many colleges and universities in BC have university transfer agreements in place. Under these agreements you may attend one or two years of a University Transfer Program at a college and then transfer into second or third year university, with full credit given for the college courses. Please check with the college for the specific requirements of the University Transfer Program you choose.
c) Direct Entry

Students seeking direct entry to the University of Victoria must write provincial examinations. They must also meet the university entrance requirements, which means students must pass specific grade 11 and 12 courses while in their graduation program. In order to fulfill current entrance requirements for any of the four public universities in BC a secondary school student must:

• Graduate

• Achieve at least a C+ average on the courses designated by the university

• Successfully complete required courses (refer to university calendar)
